Haiku Stairs: Take Two (12.18.10)

Did Haiku Stairs with Sommer a couple of weeks ago on Thanksgiving Day.  Me and Kai attempted Haiku about a month ago, but turned back at the first landing because of some intense rain.

Saturday, December 18, 2010, Me and Kai went up the long stairs...cruising pretty much the whole way, enjoying a rare dry, clear, windless day in Kaneohe in December.

Started off at about 4:00 am.  Parked the car just as some teens showed up in their car, blasting sounds and making plenty of noise.  We headed off before they got the neighbors mad.

We got to the fence right outside the trail-head, but someone had smeared feces all over the fence and put shards of glass and more doo-doo all over the ground.  Couldn't go over or under the fence.  So we had to head back to another entry point costing us about 45 minutes to an hour.  Whole set on Flickr here.

This is what the trail-head looks like:

The first portion of the Stairs.  The worst part of the trail.

Got to the first landing just as sun was coming up:

Someone had attached a Marine Corp. and Samoa flag on the building at the top:

If you look down the backside of the building...more stairs!
